Danforth was born in either Barre or New Braintree, Worcester County, Massachusetts to John Patterson, Jr. and his wife Rebecca. His first name is sometimes written as Danford.

Chloe was born in Barre, Worcester County, the daughter of Moses Smith and Lydia Smith.

Danforth and Chloe filed an intention to marry on 22 Apr 1792 in Barre, and actually did marry on 30 May 1792 in New Braintree. They promptly moved to Franklin County, Vermont, the northwestern corner of the state. Danforth’s younger brother John moved to the same area, probably a few years later. By 1797, Danforth and Chloe moved across the Canadian border to settle at Caldwell Manor in Noyan, Missisquoi County, Quebec. Noyan is directly north of Lake Champlain, although Missisquoi County no longer exists. It became the Brome-Missisquoi Regional County Municipality in the early 1990s.

The 1825 census listed “Danford Paterson” at St. Georges, Bedford, which is several miles east of Noyan. The 1831 census listed “Danefort Patterson”, farmer, in Noyan.

In 1830, Danforth donated land to the town of Noyan to build a school and church. He died in 1832. He’s buried in St. George’s Anglican Cemetery, Clarenceville, Monteregie Region, Quebec. Chloe died four years later. She’s probably buried with Danforth, but without a marker.
