Fidele (1804-????)

Joseph was born probably in Acadia, aka Nova Scotia. There are two candidates to be his parents: 1) Claude Ambroise Arsenault (1696-1752) from Port Royal, Nova Scotia and Marguérite Richard (1700-1752) from Beaubassin, Cumberland, Nova Scotia, who married about 1720; or 2) Abraham Arsenault (12 Mar 1702-19 Nov 1759) from Beaubassin and Marie Josephe Savoie (25 Apr 1709-29 Dec 1757) from Port Royal, who married on 29 Jan 1727 at Beaubassin.

Joseph was held prisoner at Halifax by the British in 1763, during the French and Indian War. His first wife was Henriette Arseneau (1747-1775), whom he married about 1768 in Miquelon, Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, a group of small islands off the west coast of Newfoundland that’s now a self-governing French territory. They had one child of record:

Anne (~1775-1869)

Marie-Jeanne, or Jeanne, was born in Petitcodiac, Hopewell, Albert, New Brunswick to Pierre Benjamin Bourgeois and Cecile Aucoin of Nova Scotia, who married in Port Royal and settled in New Brunswick. Her mother died when she was very young, and her father remarried twice, producing many more children.

Joseph and Jeanne married about 1775. They lived on Prince Edward Island, with shifting locations reported for the births of their children. For Adelaide’s birth in 1791, they were in Rustico.

Joseph died in 1816 at Egmont Bay. Jeanne died in 1850 in the same place, and is buried in St. Philip and St. John Cemetery (Saint Philippe et Saint Jacques Cimetière), Egmont Bay.

Children

Joseph Arsenault (~1771-1838)

Joseph, whose parentage is questionable given when his parents are said to have married, married Bibiane Arsenault (~1784-14 Nov 1863), daughter of Arsenault ancestors Joseph dit Liguenoff Arseneau and Marie Richard, in 1804 at Mont-Carmel, Prince Edward Island. Their children:

Maxime (~1807-31 Aug 1883) — m. Theotiste Gallant about 1827

Jean (~1808-????) — m. Judith Aucoin about 1828

Joseph A. Magitte (11 Aug 1810-~1870) — m. m. Marie Haché dit Gallant on 10 Oct 1830; m. Marie Blanche Arseneau

Marguerite Arsenault (~1776-1821)

Marguerite has her own entry in the family tree.

Barbe has her own entry in the family tree.

Henriette Arsenault (~1785-18xx)

Henriette married Sylvain Haché dit Gallant (~1782-18xx) in 1801 in Rustico, Prince Edward Island. Their children:

Adelaide (~1801-19 Oct 1820)

Henriette (22 Nov 1820-????) — m. Simeon Martin about 1842

The family lived in Rustico. Familysearch.org has a claim that Henriette died in 1820, but the claimed date of death is a month before the birth of her daughter also named Henriette. So, no.

Most of the children dropped the Haché and became Gallants.

Nanette married Jean-Baptiste Arsenault, eldest son of Arsenault ancestors Joseph dit Liguenoff Arseneau and Marie Richard. See that page for details.

Placide reportedly married a Julie Arsenault, but I have no details about him beyond that.

Eulalie (24 Apr 1848-3 Dec 1904) — m. Denis A. Arseneau on 14 Nov 1871
