Elie (10 Jun 1821-????)

Abraham was born on Prince Edward Island, reportedly at Mont-Carmel. His mother was Madeleine Haché dit Gallant from Prince Edward Island. His father was probably Jean-Baptiste Arsenault from Beaubassin, Nova Scotia, although some accounts seem to think it was Jean-Baptiste dit Chaculot Arsenault (~1736-15 Jan 1800) from Malpèque, Prince Edward Island.

Marguerite came from Malpèque. Her parents were Joseph dit Jos Magitte Arsenault and Marie-Jeanne Bourgeois.

They married about 1794, and settled in Abram’s Village. Their sons Moïse and Elie were baptized at St. Philippe & St. Jacques, Egmont Bay.

Marguerite reportedly died in 1821. Accounts place Abraham’s death anywhere between 1820 and 1838.

The family name is also written as Arceneau and Arseneaux, and probably derived from “arsenal”, referring to a site of military manufacture or storage.

Children

Joseph Arsenault (~1801-by 1881)

Joseph married Anne-Marie Arsenault (Dec 1803-18 Oct 1881) from Cocagne, Kent County, New Brunswick on 9 Feb 1820. She was a sister of the Victoire Arsenault who married Raphael Caissie, if that helps. They lived in western Prince Edward Island. Children:

Marcelline (~1821-????) — m. Armand Gallant on 6 Nov 1839

Marie Elizabeth (1848-????)

Joachim died in Egmont Bay, Prince, Prince Edward Island in 1892, three years after Marie.

Online records have two daughters named Judith for this family, because Judith wasn’t consistent about her age from one census to the next. Sophie born ~1840 might have been a daughter-in-law, not a daughter.

Joseph Maxime Arsenault (1804-1868)

Maxime married Modeste Barriault (1818-5 Dec 1902) from Kent, Carleton, New Brunswick on 19 Sep 1836 on Prince Edward Island. Their children were baptized in Egmont Bay:

Maxime reportedly married Isabelle Poirier (1802-Jan 1886), but when? Suspect this is confusion with some other Maxime. He reportedly died in 1868. Modeste lived until 1902, and is buried in St. Jacques Cemetery, Egmont Bay.

Madeleine Arsenault (~1805-????)

Madeleine married Lamand Gaudet (~1802-????) on 28 Jan 1829 on Prince Edward Island. There’s a record of one child:

Magdeleine Francoise (1835-????)

That’s all.

Marie died in 1869. In the 1881 census for Egmont Bay, Jean was living with the family of his daughter Suzanne, and next door to probable son Placide. In the 1891 census, he was still with Suzanne. He reportedly died in 1896.

No information. Probably just Joseph Maxime Arsenault with a different year of birth.

Marie Arsenault (1814-????)

Fidele Arsenault (1815-????)

No information

Moïse Arsenault (1819-188x)

Moïse has his own entry in the family tree.

Marguerite Arsenault (~1821-????)

Marguerite married Fidele Gallant (~1812-????) in 1835. Their children:

Maxime (12 Dec 1836-????) — m. Judith Poirier on 19 Jan 1859

Adeline (28 Sep 1854-1929) — m. Jerome P. “Gerald” Deroches

Joseph (1856-????)

The 1881 census showed Marguerite and Fidele still in western Prince Edward Island, with just son Joseph still at home. Marguerite and Fidele were still there in 1891, with two much younger Gallants named Jean and Marie – probably a grandson and his wife. Dates of death are unknown.

At least one of their children, Adeline, settled in Rumford, Maine.

Elie Arsenault (1821-????)

Don’t know about Elie. He had a slightly younger nephew with whom I had him confused.
