Jonathan and Mercy married on 22 Oct 1762 in York. They remained in York Village for the rest of their lives.

Mercy died in 1800. She is buried in York Village Cemetery, now called Old Parish Cemetery, at the corner of York Street (Route 1A) and Lindsay Road in York Village.

Children

Lydia Young (1763-1843)

Lydia married Ebenezer Libby (~1760-Sep 1818) from Merrimack, New Hampshire in 1781 in New Brunswick. They had a reported 12 children:

Elizabeth (May 1783-4 Feb 1878) — m. ??? Emerson; m. Martin Jellison Hall about 1809

Samuel (Feb 1785-29 Jan 1866)

Asa (8 Aug 1786-7 Feb 1854) — m. Abigail Cutler Stone on 6 Dec 1815

Lydia (~1789-~1798)

Mabel (~1790-????)

William (~1791-1802)

Sarah (~1792-????)

Ebenezer, Jr. (~1794-Feb 1854)

Temperance (3 Jun 1798-18??) — m. William Harris Hayman on 26 Oct 1815

Stephen Richard, Sr. (12 Jan 1800-21 May 1886) — m. Mary A. Hanson on 9 Jun 1831

William (Aug 1805-25 Aug 1806)

Mary (1812-????)

The family lived in St. Stephen, Charlotte County, New Brunswick, although some of the children came back to Maine.

Joseph Young (1766-1820)

Joseph was born in York. He died there as well, in 1820. In between...? He might have been the father of Joseph Young (1791-1837), who’s buried in York Village, but there’s no proof.

Mercy Young

Mercy has her own entry in the family tree.

Dorcas Young (1771-????)

There are records of a Dorcas Young of York Village marrying Benjamin McLucas, also of York, on 11 Nov 1791, and registering intent to marry Samuel Tucker of Kittery on 8 Sep 1792. At least one of these was probably her, but I can’t be sure, and I haven’t traced her past these dates. A Dorcas Young Tucker from York County, Maine, daughter of Jonathan Young, died in 1859 in Ossipee, New Hampshire.

Jonathan Richard Young (1773-1856)

Jonathan III appeared in the 1800 census for York Village as Jonathan Jr., with an unnamed woman and no children. If that was his wife, she didn’t last long, because he married Nancy McIntire (~1775-20 Feb 1844) on 13 Mar 1801. They had at least three children:

John (1815-????) — m. Mary ????

Mercy (1818-17 Sep 1903) — m. Jonathan Moulton

Charlotte (1822-7 Apr 1892) — m. ??? Shorey

Nancy died in 1844, and is buried in York Village Cemetery. In 1850 Jonathan was living with son John and family in Effingham, Carroll County, New Hampshire, the same place where his younger brother Timothy had lived. He died in 1856, and is buried with Nancy back in York.

The Jonathan Young (1773-1838) who married Mehitabel Moody in 1799 and lived in Acton, York County was a different man, but familysearch.org records have combined the two.

Timothy Young (1775-1841)

Timothy married Molly Dow Hobbs (1775-18xx) on 27 Apr 1802 in Effingham, New Hampshire. They had seven children:

Sally (1803-????)

Jonathan (21 Dec 1805-10 Feb 1888) — m. Sarah Buzzell on 29 Jan 1835

Elizabeth (1807-17 Oct 1900)

Mercy (1809-????)

Elizabeth (18 Nov 1809-????)

Mary (1811-????)

Laura A. (1816-25 Jun 1888) — m. Francis Fisher on 9 Jul 1837

The family remained in Carroll County. Timothy died there in 1841. Burial location is undetermined.

Jabez Young, Sr. (1778-18??)

The household of Jabez Young for the 1810 census of York Village listed a man age 26-44, a man and woman both age 16-25, and a boy under 10. This likely means Jabez had an unknown first wife and son. No telling who the younger man was. Jabez registered intent to marry Sally Grow (~1789-22 Dec 1820) on 14 Dec 1811 in York Village. They had one child I know of:

Jabez, Jr. (1814-27 Feb 1874)

The 1820 census for York showed the family: a man and woman age 26-44, and a boy under 10. Sally died later that same year, and is buried in York Village Cemetery; her findagrave.com page as of 2021 links her as her son’s wife, and displays a death certificate for a different and much later Sally Young. I don’t know what became of Jabez Sr., but the 1830 census for York didn’t find him. Jabez Jr., like his mother and paternal grandparents, is buried in York Village Cemetery.
