Luther was born in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, son of Joseph Hoar (20 Feb 1736-27 Sep 1800) and Mary Farwell (4 Sep 1738-1825).

Eunice was born in Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts to Deacon Pelatiah Lakeman (1 Aug 1742-Apr 1812) and Eunice Barker (19 Mar 1749-1797).

Luther’s first marriage was to Lois Woster on 16 Feb 1796. They had one child:

Luther and Eunice married on 27 Jan 1799 in Ipswich, Essex County. The marriage record listed Luther as being from Amherst.

They were living in Bowdoin, Sagadahoc County, Maine in 1809 when son William was born. Their daughter Lucinda (1819) was reportedly the first child to be born in the newly created town of Rangeley, Franklin County, Maine.

The 1840 census listed the Luther Hoar household in Rangeley consisting of just Luther and Eunice.

Luther died in 1843 and is buried in Nile Cemetery, Rangeley. Eunice died three years later, and is buried with him.
