Millard was born in Black Rock, Lawrence County, Arkansas to Luther Sherman Clark and Aurora Casline Corbet. His middle name was the name of the doctor who delivered him. His family remained in Black Rock.

Myrtle was born in or near Poughkeepsie, Sharp County, Arkansas to Claude V. Norris and Lillie Gertrude Kelley, and named for her father’s younger sister. The 1920 census showed the family in Poughkeepsie. Among their neighbors were Claude’s grandmother Martha “Tennessee” McFarlin Norris Sanders. Claude later moved the family to Imboden, and in the 1930s to Black Rock.

Millard and Myrtle married on 12 Apr 1937 in Poinsett, Randolph County, Arkansas.

The 1940 census showed them living in Black Rock with children Bobby M. (2) and Betty (0), and listed Millard as a carpenter and private contractor. The familysearch.org transcription turns “Millard” into “William”.

Millard served in the US Navy during World War II, although he remained stateside. He founded and ran a construction company after the war. In 1948, the family moved from Black Rock to the larger town of Walnut Ridge, to a house that Millard had built.

Millard died in 1967. He is buried in Lawrence Memorial Cemetery, Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, along with several relatives including son Bill.
